The Diocese of St. Cloud is seeking an experienced and dynamic person to share their passion for the stewardship of God’s gifts and help further the mission and ministries of the Catholic Church in Central Minnesota as Director of Stewardship. The Director of Stewardship oversees the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, which supports the work of diocesan ministries, Catholic schools, and local parishes and programs that support our Catholic values, and is responsible for education and support in the area of stewardship practices for the parishes through the diocese.


Bishop’s Annual Appeal

  1. Create overall strategy for yearly appeal, including goals, theme, and design.
  2. Produce materials for parishes, including homilies and bulletin announcements.
  3. Collaborate with communication team to create marketing materials, including videos, images, social media outreach, posters, prayer cards, etc. to promote the appeal throughout the diocese.
  4. Create several mailings throughout yearly appeal cycle, including writing letters and prayers for prayer cards.
  5. Travel to parishes before and during appeal to meet with pastors, parish staff, and parishioners, to provide education on the goals and benefits of giving to the appeal; and to thank communities for their generous gifts.
  6. Supervise the implementation of annual appeal strategies.
  7. Evaluate, develop and implement strategies annually to enhance and improve the appeal.

Stewardship Education and Formation

  1. Provide education and training to parish leadership bodies (including pastors, parish staff, pastoral councils, finance councils, and stewardship councils), and parishioners on stewardship, including a theology and spirituality of giving, creating generous communities, etc.
  2. Keep up to date on the latest trends and theories in stewardship and effectively communicate this to parish leaders.
  3. Collect data on different trends in giving of various groups of people (rural communities, people with different cultures, generational differences, etc.) and effectively share this with parish and diocesan leaders.
  4. Review and update as necessary the diocesan stewardship manual as a resource for parishes.
  5. Develop and coordinate Diocesan Stewardship Day in alternate years with Diocesan Ministry Day

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Professional Experience: Five years of experience in development, preferably for an arch/diocese, a Catholic, or non-profit institution, ability to analyze data and situations to develop, initiate, and implement new programs, improve existing initiatives, and eliminate under-performing strategies, proficient in computer applications, excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to relate well with colleagues, clergy, religious, and business leaders, experienced in making public presentations and facilitating groups, and ability to articulate the philosophy and objectives of the Catholic Church, including the theology of stewardship, is required.

The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of St. Cloud, Minnesota is currently looking for an Executive Director to manage, coordinate, and oversee development activity and staff. The Catholic Foundation’s goal is to nurture stewardship and philanthropy throughout the diocese through distribution of funds and grants, education on the spirituality of sacrificial giving, and education and assistance to help individuals and families in estate planning and other gifting opportunities and currently manages assets in excess of $19 million.


Planned Giving and Major Gifts

  1. Builds relationships, educates and forms pastors, pastoral leaders, parishioners, and other organizations to increase awareness and assist in increasing participation in the Catholic Foundation.
  2. Develops a portfolio and pipeline of the best prospects for major gift and planned giving support.
  3. Builds, cultivates, maintains, and services major donor prospect lists.
  4. Makes calls or visit donors annually to solicit and steward major and planned gifts.
  5. Plans, develops, and oversees donor relations, including thank you and tax acknowledgements, pledge reminders, accountability reports and other appropriate activities.
  6. Uses demographic data of the diocese to be inclusive to all people in all age groups and cultural backgrounds.
  7. Determines the most effective way to utilize the Raiser’s Edge database in tracking prospect activities.
  8. Collaborates with marketing consultant to develop marketing strategies to attract planned and major gifts through ads, direct mail, personal calls, social media, and other methods.
  9. Coordinates with attorneys, accountants, and financial planners to recommend professional services to donors.

Foundation Operations

  1. Manages, mentors and leads the staff of the Catholic Foundation.
  2. Collaborates with the director of Stewardship and diocesan Curia to achieve common goals.
  3. Provides Board of Directors and other stakeholders with an annual report of the Catholic Foundation.
  4. Maintains active affiliation with appropriate professional organizations
  5. Reports annually to the Members of the Corporation.
  6. Works with and reports to the Board of Directors; coordinates the activities of board committees; serves as ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Professional Experience and Qualifications: Five years experience as a senior development/foundation officer, preferably for an arch/diocese, a Catholic institution or a not for profit institution, that includes annual, capital, planned and endowed giving. Demonstrate ability to articulate the philosophy and objectives of the Catholic Church, including the theology of stewardship; proficient in computer applications; excellent written and verbal communication skills. Be skilled in group presentations, interpersonal relationships and have the ability to relate well with clergy, religious and business leaders.
